If you want to start affiliate marketing and don’t have a product or service of your own then you could take the JV option.

JV offers

Most JV offers are for sites where everything is pre set up for you which can save you the time and effort which is quite often required to build affiliate squeeze and splash pages.

Most sites that offer JV's usually require that you have a mailing list of your own to mail to. This is done so that the site Owner avoids being accused of sending spam e mails. However you can legitimately get around this hurdle by posting your offers to "safe Lists" or legitimate business lists.

JV offers are generally for one specific program at a time but can be very lucrative especially if the product that is being promoted is for a membership type product or service where you would of course then be able to generate a residual Income.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing offers a wide range of markets, product and services. There are also many different approaches to the actual marketing of the products. Most Affiliate products offer a pre-designed sales page for the affiliates to use in conjunction with a pre generated "special hop links" or affiliate Links which you send prospects too as is the case with ClickBank Products.

Alternatively you could set up a sales page or a shopping cart and sell a range of products which you put together from CJ (commission Junction). The method generally requires that you have some Knowledge of website design to enable you to build your sales page and set up your shopping cart.

Promoting

Do NOT buy mailing lists !!!

Most are spam lists and will have been used by several others before you get your hands on them and the chances of being banned by your ISP (internet service Provider) are extremely likely. (Most Isps and host accounts have limits on the number of Mails you can post per day)

You can also pay for legitimate Solo ad posts on e zines, or promote by posting your chosen program on the many traffic exchange sites.


SAFELists

A Safelists is a list of members who have agreed to accept mail from others in exchange for being able to send mail out to other Members.

One of the best Safelists to use is Herculist. There is a free option which gives you the chance to work out how it all works before you commit yourself to the upgraded versions. You will also be able to purchase solo ads and mass mail outs from this system and is a great way of learning how mailing lists work.

Traffic Exchanges

Traffic exchanges are basically systems where you either surf for credits place ads or banners on your site in exchange for yours being placed on other sites.

Surf for credits is free except for your time. You have to view other people’s sites in exchange for your site being displayed to others. Most of these types of sites typically offer 1 view of your site for every 2 sites you view. The Biggest problem with this is the "distraction factor". It is Human nature to be curious so what generally happens is that you start surfing only discover something interesting and before you know where you are off on another journey somewhere and you never achieve your initial goal of surfing for credits to get your own site seen by others. My advice is to pay to buy hits to your sites, that way you can save the time and be sure your site will at least be seen by others.

Advertising Sites or banner exchanges

You can choose to place small ads or block ads on Ad exchanges or your Banners on Banner exchange sites. These are sites where you can place your small text ads or banners on site. In Most cases you are expected to place others peoples ads or banners on your site in exchange for your advert or banner being viewed on other peoples sites.

Pay Per Click Advertising

Pay per click marketing is the most popular type of Marketing. It is also probably the most effective, however it does obviously cost money to place your ads on the search engines.

There are many Pay Per Click Search Engines but the most obvious ones are google, yahoo, and msn all of which work in a similar manner. You select a Keyword, or list of Keywords suitable for your campaign, decide how much you want to bid for that Key word, and you can be advertising on Google within Minutes.

It is relatively easy set up an account with the Pay Per Click Marketing (PPC marketing) search engines but if you have never done this type of advertising before then I recommend that your learn a little about it before you start to spend your money. However, one word of warning, you are NOT allowed to place affiliate Links directly in to Google, yahoo or MSN so you will need to build a squeeze page or splash page with your affiliate link embedded in to the page.
